Question emissions new cat or just an adjustment?

I have an 89 non turbo and I have never ever had a problem passing emissions. I even passed smog in cali when I was out there a couple of years ago. I bought rx7.com's double cat exaust system to pass. I just moved back to colorado and I haven't driven the car in about 6months. I tried to pass emissions out here and I pass with flying colors except for the CO at idle?? I"m hoping that I don't have to get a new cat. Is there anything else that I could adjust or set??

Welcome back to CO! PM with info on where you live and if you'd like to join the CO fledgling rx7 club.

As far as your problem, I would think that it's just a simple adjust that is needed. You might try changing the sparkplug, plug wires and other normal maintance things.

What part of the idle did you fail on? Usually you get a print out that tells you what went wrong.

I failed on the CO at Idle. The strange thing is is that I passed CO when my rpm's were at 2500? The only other thing I can think of is that since my car has been sitting for so long I think there was some carbon build up in my engine. Maybe thats why its failing.

i had the same problem a few months ago, i passed everything except CO at idle...it ended up being a destroyed cat. i had the bonez single cat system on my car for about two years but when the muffler guy hit the cat with his hand all he heard was rattling...it was done for. do a tuneup but sounds like you may need a new cat.

This is why you take your cats off after your done with emmissions 'Cause they're expensive

thats what I was afraid of. I got a double cat system on rx-7.com a couple of years ago and I was hoping I didn't have to get a new one. Oh well I guess thats life.
Thanks for the advice and keep me posted on new meetings in the colorado area.

I'm going to try to pass with dirt cheap double cats. I paid $170 for them including shipping. I need to do a few other changes before i can go to the emissions place. Here's hoping.

Edit: I suppose you could adjust your idle to 2500, a few cranks on the throttle cable might do it. Of course, the emissions people might notice....
