Arrow eliminating the exhaust from the headers back

a friend of mine picked up an 88 n/a as a project car. he wants to just throw on a straight pipe from the headers back, no cat no mufflers. i expect this to be loud as all hell, but he doesnt seem to mind. is there any reason he should/shouldnt do it. i believe he is going to use it track only, but im not positive.

talk him into doing at least a muffler, single exhaust with a muffler, i hope he's aware that without backpressure the aux. ports wont open right. . . .

Unbolt the cats from the stock tub-manifold and turn the car on. Thats what he will have to deal with, having a straight pipe.

I don't know anyone that could bear that without ear protection. I think most tracks have db limits, they might not even allow him in.

My track car effectively runs only the presilencer. It is slightly louder than the loudest car at the track. It is right on the edge of being too loud for even unmuffled events.

It is not normally too loud inside the car but one time I experimented with a home made presilencer and it split. It was way too loud and it turned my seat into a huge vibrating massage chair. But not in a good way.

You may want to take a shot at running with straight pipes but be prepared to be sent home early.

A track car has no reason to be running under 4000 RPM so wire the ports open and the only other problem is noise.
