Electronics not working? Maybe some of it is related?
ok im gonna try to explain this out as much as a can. any help that can be given would be great.
I am a rx7 noob, but i do have more than basic car knowledge. My spelling sucks as does my typing so stick with me.
1987 TII
I have read that the warning light cluster should light up with key in the on possition. - mine do not.
Only lights i get are the "brake" and "hatch" - but only when triggered.
Horn does not work.
Power windows do not work.
Havent tried sun roof yet due to bad weather and fear of having it permanently open.
All of these lights work... gauge lights (accept for shift up), dome light, all turn signals, and head lights.
My stock boost gauge sometimes resets to zero in "on" possition.
AC/ heat fan works...
Ok now for the question...
*What of this stuff is related?
I read that the cpu cold solder joints suck and need to be resoldered in most rx7's, I plan on doing that today, also the solder joints in the warning cluster it self will be done by 12:00pm Est. today...
I will post a follow up at about that time with the results of my soldering work.
Great forums by the way, This site played a big role in the reason I decided to buy my 7. It sat for 3 years, and as I see it I damn near stole it for $700. I am starting it this weekend for the first time, if all goes well.... but I love it already!
thanks in advance,
jaared
p.s. If I didnt explain anything enouf just ask and ill do my best to help you help me.

its like a new car! lol
I resoldered the cpu and warning light unit and it fixed all of my problems!
I also pulled my door panel and tested the power window switch... it is bad.. it works less then half the time.
I hooked up a miltimeter to it and it showed .8 volts when switch was down.
I hit the switch again and it read 7.8 volts and the window moved a little, I was shocked and let go of switch.
I hit it again and again and it seemed to be random volt readings.. with 12.4 max. When it read 12.4 the window went down fast and smooth... had to go throught the same crap to get it back up but I kept at it and got it back up.
***Thats the switch right? Bad connection at the switch Im guessing.. inside the switch it self. The back of the switch was clean and all connections were tight.
I killed part of my car doing this stuff lol...
So if anyone has a set of window switches and a warning light surround for a 1987 tII let me know... i need a few other things too..

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
I got a working passengers window switch, give me $15 paypal and I ship it out to you..
Also, you can take them apart and clean the contacts with a little 600 grit sandpaper then put a little conductive grease on the contacts and re-assemble them.
