electronic MOP question
Hi, I have a 1989 rx-7 convertible, and after some searching and research I have narrowed my problem to my MOP or MOP sensor. I keep getting code 27. Anyhow, my main question is: on an electronic metering pump is there a way to dissconnect the plug and simply "bypass" it, being with a jumper wire, or extra ground etc etc, as to test to make sure that is my problem before I put the money into a new MOP? For example if I wanted to go to premix, do you have to have a working MOP connected or can it be eliminated w/o the engine light and code triggering the fuel cut?

No way to disconnect the MOP on the S5 stock ECU and not enter limp mode. You can take it off and hide it somewhere somewhere though. The ECU needs to "see" it.
I've blocked mine off (S5 turbo engine) and I've tried to disassemble the MOP and just stash the servo somewhere. It will run longer that way but after a few minutes the ECU realizes the trick and goes back into limp mode.
Digitaltuning (digitaltuning.com) has an upgrade for the S5 NA ecu that allows it to be removed but no home remedy as far as I know.
SO - get a working MOP and realize that when they go, they sometimes fry the ECU. You might need to replace both.

sweet, thanks for the reply bud, one more question for ya. You mentioned that sometimes it fries the ECU, well by that do you mean, say I have a brank new MOP installed and a fried ECU will still trigger the code as if it's bad or? because other then that problem everything seems to work fine, and the car runs great up till it hits the limp mode, wouldn't a fried ECU be recognizable in other aspects?

yah, that's what I mean, I already found one and will be ordering it tomorrow, warranty and all that, running about 150 bucks, sounds good to me, I was just questioning the ECU, like how it would react if it was fried.
