Electrics Gurus!
Ok, I don't know if this is stupid or not but anyway what could cause a voltage regulator go bad ??? cuz i just bought an fd alternator and screwed up my voltage regulator, same what happen to my fc alterantor.
Thx

Wrong pulley would cause the alternator to overspin, and the regulator to be operating way too much. Could be excess water entering the electronics... could be even your belt slipping and you're just misdiagnosing... dunno... what makes you think the voltage regulator has gone south?
Maybe if you've jumpered the car off, a diode in the alt has gone.
Or how about this. See what the alternator is really putting out. Put your meters pos lead on the alternators out put. Right on the nut that holds the wire down. Right there on the alternator itself. Neg on the battery neg post. Is there a signifficant difference b/t that voltage from putting the meter on the batterys positive post and meters neg on the battery neg????? If so, I'd suspect a bad connection at the battery cables.
