Electrical system completely dead - what's going on?!
Well I got my car running and then left it for a month with the battery connected, when I came home last night to try to start it, nothing happened when i turned the key.
I figured the battery was dead, so i hooked up the charger to the alternator + post and the engine block (ground), and tried to charge it. Nothing happened on the normal setting, so I switched it over to the 'start' setting and turned it on. The fuel pump tried to prime a few times, and I heard some relays clicking on and off very quickly, then the charger shut down (I think it was flipping on and off rapidly - it doesn't seem to work properly on the charge setting).
I gave up on the charger and went to get another battery, but when I hooked it up I got the same results - turning the key on (to any position) does nothing - no fuel pump, no idiot lights, no interior lights, etc.
If i hook the charger up to the battery with the car's ground disconnected, it charges normally. If i connect the car's ground, there's a HUGE spark when I connect the charger and it tries to draw a LOT of current (no matter what position the ignition switch is in).
I've disconnected the haltech wiring (including the fuel pump power) and i get the same results. I also tried disconnecting the alternator (both leads) - same results.
Any ideas here guys? Everything seemed to work fine when I parked the car (except for a small current drain that would take the small battery down after about a week).
Thanks
Manolis
