electrical and spark plug problems

I have a fuel cutoff switch that is wired up correctly but it was not wired to a switch and while idling( at 1500 i touched the wire connection and it proceded to smoke and burn. I immediatly turned the car off and removed the battery cables to stop it. Could this do any major DAMAGE??? Or do I just replace the wire used for the cut off switch ?? I can not check untill morning and had to go to work right after it happened and could not look at the problem then.
On a side note is it ok to run normal spark plugs in my car for a little while untill i order good ones from the web??? what is a good site to get spark plugs from?

I would check your fuel pump to make sure it didnt get damaged. Fuel pump failure could make your engine toast. Not trying to scare you but it would be wise.

The wires leading to the switch were not hocked up to a switch and were exposed. While the car was running i touched the wires and they proceded to burn up
