Unhappy electrical problem, help needed

I have a small problem with my 86 gxl. when i turn my key to the middle, by middle i mean not the aux settling but fter that and not turning the car's engine on. I get a click, clisk, click. my volts go down from about 15 to about 10 or so. the dummy lights dim each time it goes click. the sound comes from, i think, the drivers side of the engine bay. Also on top of that sometimes when i open my door my inside lights don't always come on both the door lights under the arm rests and the dome light. Might i need a new cpu or is their just a short somewhere. My car is also equipped with auto adjusting suspension so maybe their is a short their. Please i really don't know how to fix this problem of mine so some help would be appreciated.

riht the car is not started. but when i do start it it starts up great. I just like too say that my car has personality! Maybe it has a short in the fuse box that resides by my left leg. I know that sometimes my windows work, sometimes they don't? My stereo works on a regular basis but their are times it goes on than shuts off goes on than shuts off..... until i play with a wire that is connected to the fuse box. But that still doesn't explain why i hear i click, click, click and why my lights dim when it does that? I really think that i might need a new cpu. Does anyone have any idea how much that is gonna cost me?

look i'm going to reply again, its like having a conversation with myself

ok, new development, go to turn on the doam light because i'm playing with stuff look at siggie to figure out why anyways

doam light should be on, door warning light comes on and clock looses power, doam lights off, warning light goes off, and clock comes back on, warning light works when driver side door is open but not passenger

and i figured all that out while trying to get in 'n' out

Skull, your first problem sounds like a simple fuse is blown. Your second problem with the clock is quite common. The points on the back need to be resoldered. Search for "idiot cluster" and you should find it.

I don't think the clicking you mention has anything to do with your door/domelight problems that you have added onto your list of symptoms.

The domelight and lack of memory on the clock is simply a blown room fuse.

Although there are a few components that have issues with age in the FC, for the most part the electrical is pretty decent.

A blown fuse shoulb be checked for before you even post a question

The clicking as you described ........key b/t aux and actually start.......is the main relay engaging. Located just aft of the trail coil. Not to worry about. Will still be there after you fix your other problems.

EDIT: Try this item in case you lost your fuse cover... https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...fuse+and+cover
