Electrical problem

When Icemark put the turboii engine in his convertible, what driveshaft did he use??? I'm curious if you used the turbo gearbox and a custom driveshaft or what????

Oh, sorry about the title. Can't use names in the titles I've been told. Figured Icemark would see that and respond. His habit.

well I did say, HMMM Hailers needs help with electrical??? it must be a pretty F***ed up electrical problem if Hailers is asking for help.

anyway, I orginally used a T2 gear box, T2 mounts and NA rear end with a custom drive shaft.. (well it was a T2 drive shaft, that I drilled it and the NA rear end to match up to the NA diff flange/mount bolts).

But I kept getting minor vibration on lift throttle decelleration, so I switched out the whole rear end and drive shaft for T2 versions.

But the T2 rear end is slightly heavier (just what the 'vert doesn't need) and I kinda miss the high 3.9 rear end (since most of my driving with the 'vert is freeway or at speed driving), so I have been considering swaping the NA rear end back in and see if the custom drive shaft was the problem.

Thank you. Reason for the post, is I'm thinking of putting my spare turboii and transmission in my n/a. I don't have a turbo driveshaft, but I thought of buying one from Mazdatrix and asking them to make a custom one for me for the n/a differential. Then again I see remarks how a n/a automatic will work on the turbo transmission. It's just that it is a bit short and I don't know if it's so short that it won't work.

And I don't want to swap flywheels with the n/a along with the counterweights.

Then again I really don't know what I'm going to do. I just hate taking the n/a out. I spent a lot of time getting the *lemon* bugs out of this car and making it reliable.

Anyway, thanks for the response. I now know not to match drill the rear flange on the driveshaft.

Oh. One of the major reasons for wanting to change the engine, is that I just passed emissions a few weeks ago. I took the Racing Beat dual exaust off and put on the factory exaust. So the car is much quieter now. If I swap the engines, I''' get more power plus the turbo makes the car much, much quieter. I've lost too much hearing to not do the swap. So swap it is in the spring time.

Just to explain the hearing loss..... we can be ringing some wires out, and the fellow working with me will say *that's good*, and I'll say *what do you mean, you can't see the meter*, and he'll say * can't you hear it ringing?*. Of course I can't hear it. Messed with cars and guns too much.

You might be able to get your local driveline shop to swap the automatic/T2 input end onto the NA manual tranny drive shaft, or I suppose you could use the Auto tranny drive shaft with about a 1 inch spacer and heat treated bolts at the diff... ( I have never tried the later, but in theory it would work).

yeah I know what you mean about the hearing thing. Hopefully it will get better with time. I spent 17 years installing car stereo, and pounder systems that people wanted, and it has taken its toll on my hearing as well, but in my case its more a constant high pitched squeal (Tintinitas or something like that).

I still have a stock NA Y pipe and T2 mufflers on my 'vert. I just didn't want an obnoxius loud car, since I do drive it with the top down most of the time. One of these days I'll get the HKS or racing beat cat back, but it's not a high priority. The guy at Corksport says with a cat in the Corksport is really not loud at all, but as much as I would like the weight savings, I am not convinced.

Well I'll let this thread die after this remark: Icemark, we have something in common with the audio systems, my and your hearing loss and my guns. I only fire my guns when one of those 1000 amp cars comes down the street with that same CD a going. The one that goes * Boom boomity Boom* and repeats that same noise over, and over and over and over. I take pot shots at them. I think they are in season 12 months a yerar. The Boom boomity boom must remind them of their mommy's heart when they were in the womb.
