Electric Fan Installation
Electric Fan Installation
Has anyone ever documented how they have hooked up their electric fan? If I can get it that would be great or if anyone can point me to a site. If not, I would like to know how you guys have hooked up your fan. I know that some people just hook their fan to a single throw switch and turn it on after their cars warm up where others use the thermostat. While still some others hook it up to the main fuse panel. If it is not on a site I will take pics of my install and put it on my site or get it to fc3s.org if Dave would like to have it.

i have a perma cool with a thermostat switch. i hooked up the fan to the switch then the ground wire from the switch to frame. the power wire went directly to the battery so it would run after the car was shut off. this could produce dead battery, but i haven't had any problems yet from this. i didn't worry about the ac wire on the thermo switch and the brown wire was for another fan.
you could find an ignition switch so when you turn off the car, it won't run, but then the temp could rise if it is hot out. you could install a switch to.
if you decide on straight hard wire, the red wire would need to go to a switch in the cockpit then back to the battery. the black wire to ground.
if you need any other info, reply back. hope this helped.

well,i just installed a black magic fan in my ford ranger[got one for my rex, too, but gotta swap engines before i get to that].they come with everything you would need.i just hooked it up to the battery, they send you a fuse with it,and i pulled my ac off,so dont need that switch.i might rewire it and hook it up to a switched source,i found this weird quirk,i think it has to do with the way i had to install the fan[i actually had to make some custom mounting brackets,it was a pain],it was a real tight fit[1/4" between the fan and my waterpump...hehe]and i had to move the fan as low on the rad. as possible,to clear my intake abouve.anyway,1 time, the fan kicked on right before i shut my truck off...i think, because the water stops curculating and the fans on the lower part of my rad and the sensor is right up top,the water in the top of the rad took a long time to cool off and the fan ran forever.very strange.i started the truck after about 5 min.my temp gauge went from 200 degrees[wich is when the fans set to come on]down to 150 right away...lol.it was cooling all the water in the bottom real well.anyway.love the adjustable thermostat,i just started my truck, waited till the temps came up to the temp i wanted it to[i have a aftermarket temp gauge],and turned the little **** until the fan kicked on.it seem to stay on until the temp is 20 degrees lower the the start, and shut off.anyway.sorry so long
