electric fan install

electric fan install

i installed a 15'' electric spal fan and when i hook up the coolant temp sensor wire up the fan turns on and stays on no matter if the key is on or off.do i have to get a spal coolant temp sensor or hook it up differently

the fan has a relay box which has a power,ground,and coolant temp wire.if you swap the positive and ground it becomes a pusher instead of a puller. im thinking i just need a spal temp sensor but wanted some more advice

Just get a temp switch from your nearest discount auto parts store and wire it up that way. You should have power directly to the fan, and it should ground through the switch. Try to get one of them that is a single wire, otherwise, you'll have to ground the 2nd prong.

And if you get the radiator probe style switch, you can remove the probe, drill a hole on the thermostat housing, and screw the switch in. Let me emphasize that you don't want to use it as a radiator probe.
