electric fan drawing too much current??

Hi..

I got an electric fan, sensor and relay combo along with fd alt and ultima red top batt.

When the fan is off (water temp below 180*F), I see 14.5V on my volt meter gauge. But once the fan is on (water temp at 180*F), my voltage drop to 12.5V at idle and 13ish Volt at cruise. Back to 13.5ish Volt at wot.

Is this normal??

Sounds a bit on the low side. My FD has never had trouble keeping 13.3+ volts with both fans as well as the A/C blower running full tilt. Are you underdriving your alternator? Even though you're on the low side I would say that it is probably nothing to worry about if you aren't having trouble getting it started.

No prob getting my car start. I do see 13V+ at cruise and wot (w/the fan's on), just that at idle it went to 12.5V (w/ fan's on).

What is "underdriving" an alternator?? is it like a loose belt tension or too tight belt tension? I am running two belt from alt pulley to main pulley.

Underdriving is spinning the alternator at less RPM than it should be spinning at...usually accomplished by putting a larger than stock pulley on the alternator.

I will check the pulley size...
(I believe its the stock size for a double belt).
