Electric Air Pump Install?

Hey Guys,

I just picked up an electric air pump off eBay from a '94 Corvette. I've got it mounted and wired up, but the problem is, it draws a heck of a lot of juice, As in 14ga wire turns red hot. Is there some sort of resistor or something like that which I need to make it work?

Thanks,
Sam

What's the amperage rating of the air pump, and do you have it wired to an appropriately rated fuse?

I really have no idea of the amperage rating of the pump, I can't seem to find the appropriate info on that. I have a 10 amp fuse on it if I remember right.
