electric air pump??
i was wanting to buy an electric air pump for my car but the information i have found says u still need the ACV. my engine has emissions removed and the ACV is blocked off, is there any way to hook up an electric pump without the ACV. also i have heard that the late 90's corvettes have electric air pumps. i have heard these are popular for this, is this correct? is there any other electric air pumps that will work. if anyone has any links or anything that would be very appreciated.
thanks in advance alex

if its for emissions than you do not need the ACV, although the pump needs to be able to run long enough for the whole test.
um anyways. the air pump needs to go to "port air" which is the round portion with the check valve in ACV area. since hoses are round, and the hole is round, it should be pretty easy to hook up. you do however need a check valve, so that when the pump is off it doesn't get fried by exhaust gasses.
you'll have to experiment with controlling the pump, but if you're still using the stock ecu, you could hook up the "relief" or "switching" solenoid outputs to a relay, these are the two solenoids that run the ACV, so they will be on at idle, and then switch off over about 2000-2500rpm.
provided the electric pump will run that long, it'll work like stock.
if you need it to run the VDI and 6PI too, maybe you could use a little pressure storage tank? the FD uses one, and it works fine? you need a tank, and a check valve. the pressure tank might be a good idea anyways, the more you can slam open the 6PI the better!

it is an s5 and its for emissions i dont have 6 port, my name (alex91n/a) is before i turboed my fc. im almost done and i wana pass emissions, i heard all you REALLY need to pass emission is good tune and a cat, i bought a brand new bonez cat and it has the split air pipe niple on it, so i was gonna run an electric air pump if need be, because i figured it would be easier than searching for the emssions parts for the air pump, my ecu is not stock its an rtek 2.1 and my ACV is blocked off and i dont have the actual ACV

i pretty much only need the pump to run during emission test idles and speeds etc. i think during idle u dont rev past 2500, correct me if im wrong i dont remember.

The Corvette LT1 smog pump should work for emissions but for anyone else reading, don't even try it for 6 port/VDI systems because it doesn't produce enough pressure. I had a failed experiment with that.
There are 3 wires on the Corvette pump I had. One is power, one is ground, and one is the actual trigger wire to turn it on.

yeah that works, you just turn it on for the emissions test. depending on the state you are in and the standards they have, hooking it up right to the cat would work, not good enough for CA though

There's an internal shutoff solenoid valve in that pump also,so proabably why it has 3 wires. BTW just an FYI, if you plan on using that particular airpump on a regular basis (not just to pass emissions) it won't live long at 12+ volts. Apparently dropping the voltage to 9 volts keeps it alive.
