Electric Air Pump

i remember reading in someone's mod list that they had an electric air pump. is this in replacement for the stock one? can it be used to control the ports and VDI with RPM switches?

If I remember correctly someone did buy an electric air pump -- like off of a Cadillac or something. One that was used to control air-ride suspension. Then they used that to control the actuation of the 5&6 ports. I remember a lot of debate of whether or not the pump was rated for continuous duty or not -- which included discussion about using an extra canister of some kind...

Anyway, you might check the archives, but it seems like the topics were like fully electronic port activation or something like that. You might even try to search for Cadillac.

I just did a setup on my 90 'vert...I used an airhorn motor, $29 from autozone, and guaranteed to work. That bitch kicks too, puts out a goot 5-10psi of air..more than enough to snap open the 6 ports and VDI...you can actually FEEL them both open now.

You saw my dinky piston compressor with the getto bleed screw pressure relief.

I like your air horn pump idea better. (It's rorary)

do you guys think an electric pump is better to use because of respone timeing? i mean what are the benifits of using the elect. air pump?

not that any of this matters to me because i have a s4 and the air pump isnt needed to open the ports rite?

the corvette elec. air pump is for emissions on cars with big turbos etc and can't fit teh stock one back on. you can't use it for 6 ports / vdi etc because the pump can't be run for more then 10-15 mins at a time. otherwise it melts. it also probably only puts out 1-2psi

1) If your S4 gets a free flowing exhaust, you can loose the backpressure to open the aux ports.
2) The 2nd gen air pump brackets are fragile. It can be cheaper to go electric than buy a new bracket.
3) More open space.
4) Less weight.

Damn, I know exactly what you're talking about. I've been through two of those damn, cheap, pot-metal brackets. I don't know what caused the thing to fracture. My engine is smooth and the belt tension wasn't excessive. I finally just had a friend CNC mill one for me out of forged aluminum stock. Now, I've got a nice, shiny bracket that I'll never have to worry about again. I may go the route of the electric pump, but that's down the road a bit.
