EGT range for an NA car??

I am going to get an EGT gauge for my street ported NA 86. Is a gauge that goes to 1600/1650 F high enough or do I need one that goes to 2000 F?

I will be putting the probe 4-6 inches from the exhaust ports.

Opinions of those with NA cars and EGT gauges appriciated.

You want the EGT's to register ~1650-1700 under load. Try to get the probes as close to the exhaust ports as possible.

EGT probes after a turbo for example are completly useless.

1750 F in top gear full load. approx 4-6 inches from the exhaust port flange.
