EGR valve question

I just tested the EGR valve using the method in the fsm and the idle speed did not change at all. The idle is supposed to decrease when a vacuum is applied to the vacuum port. I can hear the valve actuating when I apply vacuum without the engine running.

Does this make any sense? I am hoping that this is the cause of the rough running. Any tips on removing the valve and what to look for when it is off?

Thanks

If I were you and you don't have to pass emissions, I would just remove it along withe the air pump, cats, and rats nest. Then you won't have to worry about it.

Yeah, block it off, cause it's kinda like one of those mechaical bulls, but it's not really a mechanical bull.

The passages beneath are probably all clogged with carbon and soot, so nothing is getting thru anyway.

Thanks for the input. Being clogged makes sense from a standpoint of what I have observed. I will leave it as is for now since I don't have to wory about a smog test.

Any other suggestions for the roughness? The roughness occurrs as all rpm's when the throttle is held constant (that is another reason that I don't think that it is the EGR valve). I have been cleaning all connector contacts under the hood and plan to pull the computer and clean the contacts and add a ground.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, when I pulled mine out to install the blockoff plate, there was a free flow of carbon pouring out of it!
