Any fuse, much less an egi fuse, only blows if there is a short in that particular electrical connection.
My advise, go to the '88 manual (or pull your own for your year if you have) you can get online at Dave's fc3s.org site, go to the wireing diagram section at the end, and check to see if the wires you've spliced to for the fuel cut (or any splice for that matter) and see if any related wire runs to your EGI. That will major reduce your diagnosis and the bad connection should be easy to find and correct from there.
Even if you don't have an '88, Mazda was pretty consistant with the color codes to specific uses. So at worstit will give excellent clue.
Happy hunting. :-)

Here's a suggestion. Fix the wire, unplug the computer and replace the fuse. If it blows, the computer is propably ok, otherwise your computer is blown. If the computer is blown, before replacing it check for shorts on all non-ground connections to the computer - something may have blown the computer, you don't want to blow the replacement also.

Put in a bigger fuse... ..............sigh. Well, at least you learned the error in doing that.
Kind of like burning your self, so make the flame hotter to see if you will still burn yourself (shaking my finger at you).

Hey , dont leave. I might be able to help. I had the same problem a month ago and just fixed the car yesterday by myself after the meckanic estimated 10 hours to install another harness not including the harness or the burnt wires by the egi fuse itself. My EGI fuse Blew three twice so I put a 60amp fuse and started smoking. Replaced fuel harness but EGI box was not harmed. I questioned that to. My burnt wires didnt actually touch the box but negitive energy can still pass through. Mine didnt. Go look back in my thread that says catostrophic electrical prob. People replied. Thiers a few others in here. Anyways I didnt actually find the short, but after splicing the EGI wires from the fuse It worked fine, so obviously It was in thier somewere. If you have time like I did you can splice those wires but you need to know That some wires split and turn into two wires. Be careful. Tell me wich wires on the ignition side of the harness went out. You know , the ones by the fuse. Mine had those burnt and also all wires in the main EGI relay box on drivers side neer boot in the firewall. It says N350 made in japan, or something like that. I had to splice those as well. I had to take the burnt wires out completely by cutting the inulation off the harness. I will have to electrical tape it tomarow. Call back if you have any questions. Im not a meckanic or anything , im only 20 but I learned alot in the past two days.

Guys, check the wiring behind the alternator. A few years I was blowng fuses like crazy and I couldn't find it. Someone on the FC3S list pointed me right around there and I found the harness wore through and exposed a wire that was grounding out. Taped it all up and it was good as new. Hope this helps...

i had a problem where that fuse was blowing. i finally traced it to the acv plug. it got melted and was shorting against the air pump. you could not see it because it was the pipe going to the acv.

mine had the wires running to the alternator grounding out on the manifold, the alternator wires are damn close to the manifold, maybe a half inch. I was blowing fuses every day until I saw the spark from where it grounded.
