ECU suggestions
Hey RX7 enthusiasts! Just a quick question: I've done some mods to the car like exhaust, intake, ignition wires, etc.. etc.. not to mention a butt load of suspension upgrades. My question was: What would you guys recommend in terms of the ECU chip ugprade? Would you even do it? I've heard from a few people out there that if you're running an NA car *which I am, you really don't need it. Here's what my setup is so far:
1988 GXL
Magnecore Ignition wires
HKS CatBack
Racing Beat Headers w/ Presilencer
K&N Intake system
KYB Struts
Eibach Springs
OBX Strut Bar
Suspension Techniques Sway Bars
And a whole lot of stereo components.
Thanks for any input you guys can give me!!
Peace,
AJ ^_^

With nothing more than a Wolf 3D EMS and K&N filter, my racing partner got his NA running nearly as fast as a stock TII. Yes, your car will be faster with an EMS, but whether or not it's worth $1,250 for the EMS is up to you. I think that most of the better EMS units on the market ($1,200 - $4,000) would give you about the same performance as the Wolf 3D, but IMO the Wolf is the easiest to install and tune. Note that most people don't have the know-how to properly install and tune an aftermarket EMS, and I have known people to spend up to $3,000 for a pro installation and tuning on a Haltech (the most common EMS in this country). If you are interested in an EMS, I would recommend checking with your local rotary-smart speed shop to get a package deal that includes installation and tuning.
