ECU Problems

Its been a long year but I almost have this car running (88 TII S4 engine). However it seems that there are a few issues that need cleared up before I can take this thing for a spin. Right now the engine starts and runs but unfortunately its spewing smoke out the exhaust. Its not coolant thank god, its fuel. My car is literally dumping fuel in at an excessive rate and making my life miserable. I checked the injectors and they're all working fine so to me it seems the only other issue could be that the ECU is freaking out. Now for the questions:

1. I just talked with the guy i bought it from and apparently the MAF wire that connects to the ECU harness is snipped. Could that be the problem?

2. The ECU looks like it's been knocked around a bit, could I need a whole new one? If so how much to replace the stock one and could I go to standalone instead?

3. Not all the sensors are connected correctly yet, could the ECU be running in panic mode?

4. Other thoughts/opinions?

Well any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

Why don't you scan for error codes?

There a dummy's guide to that in the FAQ? I've never done that before.
