I was just wondering what the differences were between an 86-87 ECU and an 88' ECU?? I saw this written on another thread, but there were no specifics.. I have an 88' GXL and would be curious to know what makes my ECU different?? Thanks for all the advice.. Have a Good Week,

There is no major difference between the 86-87 N326 and the '88 N327. It is most likely slight fuel and timing tweaks to keep up with new emissions regulations.
You won't notice a difference if you swapped them.

i know that the injectors are different... you cant use 86-87 injectors w/ a 88-92 computer and vice versa... im right in the middle of a very fustrating engine install.
I grabbed an 86 engine w/ harness, sensors, UIM and LIM from the boneyard to go into my 88se.... the ignition works fine... i tested that ( timing light + cranking=pulses of light=spark). I know its a fuel problem because thats all thats left. I've already replaced the injectors from my 88. Still no workie.
Next, im going to try replacing the whole harness.... if that doesnt work im going to cry like a little bitch.

The injectors don't have anything to do with the ECU.
'86 and early '87 cars have a resistor box to use low impedance injectors.
late '87 plus cars have no resistor box and use high impedance injectors.

low vs high
just a quik dumb question. where would i be able to find that resistor box?
i have a n332 ecu turboIImotor & tranny in my first gen gls-se and i was in the middle of purchasing (2) 1600cc injectors to use as secondaries and (2) 720cc to use as primaries to be regulated by the S-afc . i would definetly like to know now if i would be needing the low or high impedence. how can i tell ? can i go by vin # on block? remember i have a turboII engine but its in a 1st gen body. sorry to jump on your thread just lookin for quick answer . again i apologize fc884life

The low imp and high imp injectors have different colour tops... can't remember them offhand though.

The best way to do it is take your injectors out and use an ohm meter to measure the resistance.
Low is 2-3ohm. High is 15-16 ohm
The Solenoid Resistor looks like this jpg.http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/showth...threadid=31110
I am pretty sure n332 is low impedance. If tyou have a 86-87 ecu and wiring harness, just put low impedance injectors in instead of the 88 high impedance. Or you can just use the high impedance but not use the resistor pack since you won't need it. Or vice versa. Rotary ressurection page describes it all also and which injectors are which

The ECU has NOTHING to do with whether or not you have a auto or manual transmission. See the pinouts for the ECU if you have doubts. The auto transmission cars have a seperate computer for the transmission.
