Is E-fan behind the radiator important???
Hey guys, the "Cooling Fan" warning light came on in my TII and I suspect the electric fan behind the radiator is out. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket I can get? And how important is that fan? Will I cause any damages to my car driving around without it? Thanks.
Black Magic one is nice. Or one from a Pontiac Fiero GT (V6) is also a cheap option. Your engine temps will go WAY up, which is, on a scale from 1 to Bad...is a VERY VERY BAD!!!! Just upgrade to a nice e-fan. Also, make sure it is shrouded!! I am gonna try and use one from a 1992 Mitusbishi Eclipse 1.8L
there is no e-fan behind the rad. it's a mech one. you may have a small one infront. unless you have A/C you shouldn't need it. it only comes on if you get too hot.I am unaware of any fan light
Scott 89t2, I'm talking about the "Cooling Fan" warning light on the dummy light cluster. I'm not sure if the fan is mech or electric. You're right, it is infront and not behind of the radiator. I live in Phx, where it get 120 in the summer and A/C is kind of an essential. So, any replacement suggestions?

It's dry heat, but still, 120!!!!
Yes, there is a little e-fan infront of the radiator that triggers the cooling fan warning light when it goes out. I didn't know about it till I looked it up in the factory manual.

Is it for TII's or all rex's??? I need to look, cuz now, I fell REALLY dumb!!! Hey, I like in Texas. 110 in the summer with 90%+ humidity, and I pulled my A/C. My friends call me hardcore for a reason!!
I don't know if it's just for TII's. Looking at the factory manual, I though it was standard on all 7's.
Hey, that is hardcore. I've been through a Phoenix summer without A/C before and have since vow never to do it again. I want to be able to get out of my car in the summer time and not be drench in sweat.

it's only on some cars. it either turns on when ever the A/C is on. or if the water temps get over 210F. I'm sure I don't have a light on my S5. maybe the S4 do??... what year is yours.
I have the fan but no A/C. I don't think it's ever turned on before... which is a good thing with no A/C

That electric fan is on all cars (not just 7's) with A/C. With any vapour-compression A/C system, it's important to have airflow through the condensor at all times. That's why it turns on whenever the A/C is switched on. No airflow through the condensor will cause a commercial system to trip out on high gas pressure; I'd assume automotive systems do the same.
Rotarymaz, if you plan to run your A/C, get the fan fixed.

Only on a few US models. Just because it has air doesn't mean it will have the electric fan on the US models.
Generally only TII models with ABS and air conditioning.

I'm starting to think that there were no "Set in stone" options for any specific model. Seems like every time someone says a certain option only came on this one certain model; someone else chimes in and says they have a different model with that option. I think Mazda randomly picked cars to get different things, other than the actual turbo itself, it seems any model could have had any option.
