e-BRAKE LIGHT ALWAYS ON!
Please someone help me! I did a auto to 5 speed swap and now my e-brake light constantly stays on and I believe thats whats draining my battery during the night!
I have a 1987 gxl just to know what im driving...i put my e-brake down and it stays on!!!! sharp tuns or hard turns, either or it stays on, hell even when im driving in a staight line lol and yes I did check the brake fluid level and its mos. def. at the max level, actually a little bit past it.
when i turn car off and pull the key out, the light on the idiot light cluster goes off....im sooo tired of my car
any help would be appreciative considering im going to be snowed in tomorrow, i figure i pull the car back in the garage and try to solve this issue...thanks

The online 88 wiring manual shows four possible sources for a ground to turn the light on. They are shown in the attached jpg. Eliminate one item at a time and see how things work out.
The ground thru the ignition switch caught me by surprise. I had no idea that existed. Not really interested enough to look further into it.
EDIT: Well I looked at the next page in the diagrams and the source from the ignition switch is thru a four wire connector at the ignition switch. Frankly I don't remember any such plug on my car. Could be wrong.

So you go to each of those items, and with the key ON, you pull the plug off them one at a time and see when the light goes off.
IF you pull all those plugs off, and the light stays on, then I'd revisit the automatic transmission wiring. The START circuit runs different on a auto vs five speed. YOU had a four wire INHIBITOR switch plug on the aut transmission, and you must have made some wiring change to get the starter to work. Maybe your work there is the cause of the discharge. I don't readily see how it would be tied to the brake light though.

I had this issue on my ae86...
it turned out that the axle seals (i dont know proper jargon YET!) were toast and leaking oil all over the rear brakes. that and i adjusted everything back there like a moron.
