Unhappy e-bay vs rx7 > must read

anyone else get worried about how many rx7 parts are ending up on e-bay? i mean, yea its good to see a readily available supply of parts, but it bothers me when you constantly see a page of 88 T2 this, this, this, this.

then you know that an 88 T2 just bit the dust. i fear that people might be taking a car that just needs a little TLC and canablize it on e-bay just for the $$. eventually there arent going to be many rx7s left and the parts supply might dissappear even at mazdatrix and dealerships cause there is such a little demand for the few rx7's that are left. i fear were watching our demise.

personally, i will keep my 7 until gas runs out, then i might even drop an electric engine in it. i hope that toyota piris and honda insight become so popular that all cars use hybrid engines and that leaves more gas for the rx7 community.

nothing will ever feel as right as sitting in my 90 vert. i had the seats releathered in my 88 vert. that car has gone to rx7 heaven, but those seats are now in my 90. now that im older and can affors to keep my rx7's out of heaven, my car will forever be here. the only way id be ok seeing it go bye bye, is if its totaled at 140mph with me in it.

love you e-bay for helping me keep it alive...
damn you e-bay for being responsible for the deaths of so many of our breathen.

id be buried in my 7 if it was possible.
id take it to vagas and leagally marry it if my girlfriend wouldn't leave me for doing so. too bad the exaust pipe is so dirty. id make love to it otherwise

A great daily driver, just dont pick a chick up and take her out to dinner more than 4 miles from home, or you wont be making it back. Who the hell wants a car with a 10 mile drive radius??

Didnt bother to read the ad. If it has a 10 mile radius than thats just ******* retarded. I think an electric assist (kind of like the honda insight- uses both gas and electric motors) would have been a better setup then. I believe those get about 80 miles/gallon.

someone should put the toyota piris engine in their rx7. they can drive cross contry on 2 tanks of gas. you could always bore it out and turbo it too, all 3 cylinders.

or even better, hook up the electric half of the piris engine to a rotary. then you can speed and save gas as you desire

This is an interesting subject. Yes ppl are hacking these cars up to sell them on ebay, and yes this is taking more and more rx7's off the road. This is clearly a major problem, but how can we stop it or do somthing to stop it? Maybe not buy from ebay? And only places like Mazdatrix? This would seem to make sense.

I think we are a long way from running out of FCs. Consider Mazda built and sold worldwide over 70,000 1986 models alone.

If there was the least bit of scarcity the cost to buy one would be considerably higher.

And frankly I wouldn't think it too be a bad thing, if there were fewer and fewer, because then kids wouldn't be buying them and wrecking them. Because they couldn't find them.

Instead they would be buying a Civic or Accord or Mustang (if they really wanted a V8) and blowing the motors or wrecking those cars.

i agree with icemark....i dont think there will be a shortage of sevens any time soon. Im sure that Mazdatrix, Racing Beat, Corksport, etc, dont even notice the small percentage of potential buyers that ebay is taking from them. I would rather spend a little extra for a new part that comes with a guarantee, and i know will last....as oposed to a used part that i have no clue when it will go out on me...again.

look at it this way: if there were alot of them (like civics/tegs/celicas) then you would see cheap taiwanese carbon-fiber hoods, altezzas, nasty body kits, etc and most of the fcs on the road would be just as distateful as most of the focuses/civics on the road

if there are less of them...then we are even more unique by driving a rotary (which, despite the lack of mechanics, is what is appealing about the rx7).

i dont want all the teenage kids on my block driving 2nd gens....otherwise everyone would be saying "there goes another one of those d*mn rx-7s again....pieces of crap!"

Well if you think about it, as more sevens are destroyed, then that just means theres one less seven on the demand end of the table, needing a new part. So it balances out.

The point you try to make is only valid from one standpoint. If it wasn't for eBay and making parts widely available I would imagine many more RX's would end up under the crushing lid of a junkyard. It's actually good to know that car's can remain running well past their prime and be kept alive through the transplants and donations of their brethern.

If you search for parts on other cars of the era you will find that the market is not that great which tells me no one gives a crap about keeping those cars alive. Thank goodness for the fanatcism around the Mazda RX7 and the rotary engine. eBay has probably kept more cars from being crushed than we'll ever know!!!!

^^ I agree with 1adzam, and ebay also helps by selling whole RX-7's to other enthusiasts, search for it under mazda and you'll usually find 45-60 of them...

the main problem is this. in my situation i have an 86 base model. ive brought it to a mechanic and a mazda dealership. both places told me nothing was wrong. i know somethings wrong because it happens when i drive. ive read and read and read and i havent found a similar problem. now i have to sell the car which i dont want to do. and it probably is going to get sold and then stripped for parts which sucks. i personally love the car and want to keep it but i just cant figure out whats wrong.

Yeah, I am parting an 86 base out...Its not like I am proud of it, but the body/frame damage makes it unfixable. So instead of calling the junkyard and having them tow it off, I decided to part it out to people that need stuff...I know several people on this site that I have just flat GIVEN stuff to.

Yes, its sad to see one go, but wouldnt you rather get a crack at what parts are left?

I think we will see FDs and FBs start to disappear before we do simply because Mazda made more FCs. I think we have awhile before we have to worry about a shortage of RX-7s though (any gen.).
