dumb fc designation question

I was wondering if anyone knew why the turbo fc's were designated TII, when they are not twin turbo'd

sorry if its been covered i couldnt find it

t2 stands for second turbo, the first gen rx7 for t1 or just regular turbo

Because they are the second turbo rotary to be released by Mazda... The first being a limited edition 12A-T... The designation refers to the engine, not the car...

And thanks to Ted or Mark who answered the question for me, they stopped calling it the Turbo II in '91 so not to cause confusion with the new twin turbo model that was in the plans.
