i tried the bleeding procedure you described and it is still pretty stiff. it has improved a little bit but it has been three days and it stil isnt back to the norm.
maybe i should flush. does anyone have a pic of the hose for flushing
does atf mean something different when talking about ps fluid because i am thinking auto tranny fluid.......

The power steering system uses Type F automatic transmission fluid, yes. DO NOT use that yellowish power steering fluid. I think it will eventually destroy the seals. There's some reason Mazda specified atf instead of power steering fluid.
Hmm, stiff, huh? Something sounds wrong here. It should be very easy to bleed. As I recall, it's impossible to hook the lines up wrong, so there must be something else wrong. Is the pump actually turning?
As for the hose you remove, it's the lowest hose going to the reservoir, kind of underneath the pump. It doesn't have threaded fittings like the two on top do, it has hose clamps. You have to remove that hose and put a longer hose in its place while you're flushing out the system. Sorry, no pics.

BTW, do you have a WRX, too? I was going to get one, but budget constraints saw to it that I did not.

thanks
no i dont have a wrx if i was to get one i would wait for the sti or i would get an older style 2.5 rs. i used to have a 2.2 sport coupe and i LOVED it. it is the best all around car that i have ever owned. no it didnt corner like a 7 and it wasnt as fast (could be) but driving that thing off road and in the snow was fun as hell. and when i say it didnt corner as well i mean it had more body roll but i think both my 87 gxl and my sube could take any corner the same. i cant brag enough about my subaru so i wil stop here. but all i can tell you is that a test drive wont do it justice and you will love the car if you get it

Oh wait, no, that was a pipe dream. That POS has a 1.2L three cylinder. Also, no room to put a 4-cylinder, or most V6's, thanks to the really narrow frame rails. I thought about a rotary, but the engine would be worth more than the car at that point, not to mention all the custom fab work required.
But, hey, the 4wd system works, and it gets lots better gas mileage. I bet it's give the 7 a run for the money on a gravel track.
