Dual oil coolers

I think I might do a dual oil cooler setup on my FC. A few reasons why: I might be able to get another oil cooler for free, I enjoy fabbing stuff, and I get bored ANyway, are there any real advantages to the 2 oil cooler setup? I know that the stock FC one is pretty damn good in the first place, but having cooler oil couldnt hurt. I know the R1 and R2 FD models came with 2 coolers, but I never got a chance to really look at how they are set up. IM assuming that putting the coolers in parallel would be the best idea (less pressure drop) or am I thinking about that backward? I would like to route them in front of the radiator into the opening of the bumper, and have them sitting one on top of the other. I figure this would give them the best airflow, and help out cooling the most. (picture a FMIC) Anyway, has anyone else done this? Any tips on how to hook them up? Would having them in front of the rad cause cooling issues with the rad?

i dont see why you would want to, because the R1 and R2 if you put them both together they only a little bigger than stock FC's oil cooler

Yes, I understand that there is probably no "need" for it. But, it couldnt hurt if it could possibly lower oil temps by a few degrees, then its something worth trying. Like I said, beside a few fittings Ill have to buy, its pretty much free, and something for me to do.

I am actually going to do the same thing.

Nothing wrong with keeping your oil cool, IMO.

I'm just going to do it for the experience, and see just what kind of difference it may or may not make.

I haven't decided where to mount.. Although I can't really see having 2 mounted in front of your rad making a huge difference in cooling, unless your oil is ridiculously hot.

I was going to do some kind of custom mount job, and run them in sequence (mount another one and add some oil lines) rather than fab them together.

.. And get an oil temperature gauge.

Do a search for "dual oil cooler" cause I think there was a pretty legnthy thread about it a while back. If its not here try looking in the general rotary tech support section.

Why go to all the trouble when you don't even know if you need it? If you think oil temps might be a problem (and they're probably not) then get an oil temp gauge.

Unless you are generating a lot of heat (i.e. highly mofified engne or racecar) then most likely you will over-cool the oil, which will result poor oil flow and faster engine wear.

Some FD's had two small oil coolers.

Hey RXmfn7- Maybe you could find a way to fab a tranny lube cooler? That would be interested.

Good point.

What's a good temperature range for oil?

I thought a differential cooler was a more popular application?

uhm, tranny coolers aren't really needed for manuals are they? I thought that was a auto problem
Diff cooler would be a good idea, maybe get a used FD cooler and clean it up and rig that.

Yes tranny coolers are alot more necessary on Auto trannys, but heat is one of the major causes of transmission failure. And it would be more effective than dual oil coolers.
