In stock form there are two belts turning the water pump pulley; one also turns the alternator and one also turns the air pump. If you remove the air pump you loose one of the belts. If you're using the stock clutch fan, you need two belts on the water pump pulley or it'll slip when the clutch engages and at high rpm. A dual-belt alternator pulley allows you to contunue using two belts on the water pump pulley. As a bonus if one belt breaks you still have one working, so you don't end up stranded.

There are no disadvantages.

Is this pulley being made? If so what type of alternator do you have? You will want to make sure the pulley is the right diameter so it wont underdrive.

i saw it and i held it in my hand, it looks pretty much the same diameter as my stock one....

i will confirm with the guy that it is the proper one, i looked at it and was confused as to how it bolts onto my alternator but i'll figure it out....

i have a stock S5 alternator, he was trying to talk me into getting the FD alternator conversion kit but i'm a little short on cash....

Dont you think that asking Higgi himself is the best way to get an answer to your question?

No, Higgi does not make them anymore. I have been trying to convince him to start making them again, but I don't think it is going to happen.
