Driveshaft Install Question?

First driveshaft picture is the original prior to removal. Second picture is re-installation after my rebuild using the same transmission and driveshaft. See the shinny part annotated by the yellow arrows. Is this ok? I'm not sure why there is that space now?? 90 NA mtx

The slip yoke has pulled out a bit more and is probably OK but, I would want to know why. Did you change the motor/trans/diff mounts? If not, the worn ones may have just simply shifted a little after the installation.

I did change the motor mounts and tranny mounts, but not differential mount.

Could be just a little different because the rear end is up in the air.The shaft is still IN there so don't worry,it won't fall out.

I figured it was ok but never thought about the mounts. Probably the cause of the difference. I don't feel any slop in it. Thanks.

If the old mounts were sagging, the new mounts probably put it back where it's supposed to be. Years of rubbing make the shiny spot, new mounts will make it rust again. It's a cycle
