yep, I tried aircraft grade epoxy. I think I got the door to open 4 times before it broke again.

You probably wont believe it but I took a chance with my lincoln welder. found a washer and welded it right on top of that cheep pot metal instead of jbweld or epoxy. After I was done it still moved like new, threw on some grease. Mine's been like new ever since.

My first FC was a nightmare to get in. Drivers side handle broke, pass side was a different handle and lock so key wouldn't work. When I would go to visit my wife at school she would have to crawl in through the hatch (the only way to open the car with my key) get herself over the rear strut tower bar then into the pass. side seat to open the doors. It was hilarious every time and I just waited for someone to say "hey! what the hell are you doing to that car!"

i had to change out my driverside door lock a little while ago (which involved removing the handle). Its not impossible, just get a long enough socket drive.

mazdatrix also has new locks with keys and everything (they even light up like the oem locks):
http://www.mazdatrix.com/in-locks.htm

AND they have door handles:
http://www.mazdatrix.com/doorwin2.htm

the door locks arn't too expencive, but the door handles... well, i hope you live close to a pick-a-part.

Good luck finding a used handle. I live close to plenty of pick-a-part/wreckers, but there isn't a door handle to be found.

I'm having similar problem. My driver's side lock is broken (dropped pin), and my passenger handle is broken. Also, I can't turn the key in the hatch lock, so I had to get a locksmith to unlock the driver's side door. now i have to leave it unlocked until i can fix it.

While you had the locksmith there, why didn't you get him to fix the lock instead of just unlocking it? Or is your handle broken, too?

LOL! My door will open from the outside, but only with the window down...then I just reach in and pull on the handle inside! Kidding aside, after searching high and low for a used door handle, I had to order a new one, and it's on back order. Luckily, I've got someone bringing it in for me wholesale and I just need the base model (no security or light) so it's not going to cost me as much as originally quoted.

Try eBay. I know there are some there, just not the right color for me!

I've had two fail on me, and the second was the "new" used one!!! It snapped right when i was hooking it up, and I hadn't even put much pressure on it.
Doh!

I'm going to try to fix it rather than freaking pay $100 for a new one.

ATTN: Where EXACTLY is the failure point in these handles?

The rear striker breaks right at the point where it meets up with the rest of the handle (stress concentration ftw). At least thats how it was on both of my driver's handles.

They break because you have to lift the handle to make sure the stupid door is locked when the door closes. Design flaw courtesy of mazda. And its always the drivers side because its the handle thats used the most obviously.

They do break and it's probably not the best design, but you are talking about 15+ year old parts...

Some people claim to have success with JB weld, but that didn't work for me...so I asked a freind of mine if it could be welded and it can't. Do you know someone who can get parts wholesale? I ended up getting mine from Mazda for $75 (cdn).

Do it soon...I imagine Mazda won't continue to supply these forever.
