drivers door adjustment
drivers door adjustment
My drivers door on my 88 vert is perfect when closed, tight, no leaks etc... howeverI takes a really hard slam to close it.
If I adjust it to make it close easier it gets sloppy.
What is the solution to a tight, no rattling door and easy to close( not have to slam)
Any help would be appreciated.

well my door does the same thing but worse and i havent got around to ajust it but i know howits all about the shims go to a parts store and get a lil pack of these. first off is ur passenger door adjustment right. if it is try to line up the drivers door like that . second when ur adjusting it it always works better for me if i take off the molding. an easy way to adjust it is with a jack lossen the hinge bolts on the door and put the floor jack under it and raise it a little bit at a time basically there r no exact adjustment its all trail and error as i do mine ill post how i did it on here
First thing to check is the door gaps. Make sure they are even all the around, especially at the back and bottom. This also includes how the door and body match up in the plane, i.e. the panels need to have the same gap and be even across from each other. If those are out, you need to adjust the hinges first, which requires removing the fender. Look at your door seal, is it in good condition and properly attached.
If those are correct, then adjust the catch hook on the door pillar. It should move up down and in and out. Close the door slowly and feel for any interference. Does the door try to move up or down to catch? If it does, move the hook the opposite way.
Once the vertical is correct check the horizontal. Move the catch hook outwards and close the door, if you feel 2 clicks and the door is not tight move the hook inward. Continue this until the door latches properly. Lube the door mechinism with some white litihum grease to make the operation smoother.
