Drama - Workshop realized my flywheel is stuffed, need advice!

Ok the workshop took my clutch out today, to find that it had a mazdaspeed 3 puck clutch kit mounted on a lightened mazdaspeed flywheel. The flywheel is stuffed, has a big groove in it.
I need advice
Ok, he can either put on the daiken exedy 5 puck clutch he ordered in onto a standard flywheel, but i will lose heaps of performance - how much performance will i lose?

The other option is to get another mazdaspeed 3 puck clutch kit and mount it onto the stuffed lightened flywheel. What will this do overtime? The mech said he can't guarantee it, what will happen?

Thanks alot, need advice urgently, Dan.

It has a big groove in it... they can't machine it because it's stepped, and then the teeth don't join up to the starter motor anymore. Look i'm just repeating what he told me, i havn't actually looked at it, but we can safely assume it's not usable i think. Or if we put it back on it'll burn out the clutch.
I need to know how much difference in performance the lightened flywheel will make compared to the standard one, because i think that's really the only choice i have to make.

Dan.

any advice anyone? I'm kinda desperate here...
I need to know how much performance difference there will be from a standard flywheel on the 5 puck daiken clutch, or a lightened flywheel on the same clutch.

Just say we increase the boost, and i get 200kw at the wheels, will i not be able to take advantage of this power being produced becasue it's running through a standard flywheel?? Will it make THAT much difference?

Thanks alot, Dan.

If you are a drag racer, you'll probably want to keep the stock flywheel. Launching a lightweight flywheel can be very tricky.

You'll be making the same amount of power regardless of what flywheel you're using. A light weight flywheel makes the car rev faster, and that can definitely be useful in autox situations. It really depends what you use the car for.

Not many of us have experience with a daiken or mazdaspeed clutch...that stuff doesnt often make it over here. You'll be best suited to follow whose ever advice is working on the car. Most of us over here run ACT organic of 6 puck discs, act heavy duty pressureplates, and either stock flywheels or 9lb aluminum aftermarket versions.

I've got a spare Mazdaspeed clutch/pressure plate if you need it.

lol, yeh sorry about the slang.
Alright, what ive done, mainly for money sake, is bought a second hand stock flywheel, which will be machined, the daiken clutch sent back and re-ordered to fit, and put in the car. I'm using the car as a daily driver, but it'd be a shame to have 200kw at the wheels and have it rev terribly b/coz 13b's suck without a lightened flywheel...I mean i've never owned one before, let alone with a lightened flywheel, so i wasn't aware of what difference it'd make. But basically, $140 bucks for a stock second hand flywheel, and 900 for a new mazdaspeed lightened one, and i simply don't have the money. In debt now to my nanna for the clutch already!

Thanks for the advice everyone, i'll let you know how it goes, Dan.

Well lets put it this way, your giving up a little bit of performance for a lot of longevity. Judging by the way your sweating the cash your forking out it's for the best. Who knows maybe without the clutch slipping you'll possibly gain a little bit of power to the wheels you never knew you had.
