Drag Racing -- the seed of evil!!!!!!!

Yeah well I finally got the nerve up to take my 88 TII out to the track and see what she was capable of. Now I didn't want to drag race because I believe each time you drag race your car's life lessens.

Yeah so I went out pull up to the line, and droped the clutch and slamed it at 4k rpms, and no fucken traction and only a little wheel hop, 2nd run I let out the 15 psi in the rear tires so I'm running at 18-17psi, so I think I can grab the track better, rev it to 4k drop the clutch and slam it still no traction and wheel hop like crazy, I had to let off the gas it was so bad, (my warning light cover flew off)

well to make a long story short I did that a few more times and got almost no wheel hop and no loss of traction but that was launching 3k and fondling the clutch.

best times include 14.70, 14.57, 14.29

my last run (14.29) I got a 60 ' of 2.11 not to bad I guess
but I was really hoping for low to mid 13's

so as I'm driving back to the staging I notice every time I give it half throttle from no throttle I hear a "clunck", tested from a stop "clunck", now if I ease on to it its fine. So I think to myself "You ******* dumbass you know better than to drag race!, you just broke your differntial mount $$$$$$" and thats prettty much it oh yeah my mods are in my sig

I took off my stock air box and put my cone cia for tonight, idles way better and boosting to 10psi!

diffmounts are 100.00 and if you are compitent you can do it yourself with a floor jack, stands and a socket set

just drop the subframe as a unit
it is easier

Woah woah woah drag racing does not lessen your cars life or its reliabilty a shitty owner will lessen the life of an rx7 not saying your one but you get my idea things are gonna break on a car thats 15 years old good maintenace and upkeep will "lessen" the chance of **** breaking and the change your motor will die

don't slam the clutch out, I hold rpm@ bout 3.5k and give more gas as I'm letting out the clutch not super slow but giving a little slip to get off the line then as soon as clutch has grabbed punch the throttle, this all takes place in about 1.5 sec or so, keeps tracton w/good launch (for me any way)

Now, go find out where you can take your car to an autocross, and go do that. I guarantee you'll have tons of fun there too.

I personally like autocrossing better cause i feel you have to have more skill draggin is really a 60ft or no 1/8th mile race everything after 60ft is just shifting gears and you can usually tell what your 1/4 mile time is by your 1/8th time in autocrossing anything can happen and you dont go straight and my friend thats where the fun begins....peace

You should get some nittos or some BFGoodrich drags. I hear the BFGs are better cuz the sidewall gives more than the nittos. (similar to a slick).
Black RX7 are you going saturday night? I am.

Rx7's are not made for drag racing. Dont these cars have IRS rears on them? I'd be afraid of breaking half shafts. Keep them were there good, racing from a roll or road racing.

14.60's is not fast. Try running 10.90's in a stock suspension setup. I HIGHLY doubt a stock suspension 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen would run in the high 10's or 11's without a signifigant amount of chassis or suspension mods totally negating what the car was made for, turns at 100mph, but what would I know.

Just get a comp diff mount from Mazdacomp - they're only like $60. You have the exact symptoms of a broken diff mount.

Drag racing an RX-7 is like using a $500 Snap-On torque wrench as a hammer - yeah, it can do it, but it's designed for something far greater.

On the stock suspension thing - considering these cars have many miles and years on them, the stock suspension is usually totally worn out. But, I do know John Duarte was running 10's in his daily driven 10th Anniversary with regular upgraded springs and shocks - nothing super fancy. That's with full interior, stereo, etc.
It can be done.

Hahaha I work at Snap-On and as far as I can tell EVERYTHING gets used as a hammer or a prybar, or both

Sounds like you broke your differential mount. I broke mine at the track too. I thought it was a bitch to install but it was very easy, just a little time consuming.
Definitaly drop the subframe and everything will be like cake after that when installing.

Exactly where is the strut mount at? Easy to change? I just changed my rear diff. mount, and I have a very very slight shudder still. This may be my problem.
