dr cat question exhaustenheimer

do the 5th and 6th ports open by only back pressure, or is there a tube thingy that you have to have to activate them? I couldnt figure it out by searching or looking at the racing beat presilencer. I noticed on the presilencer there is a little tube, must you use it to activate the ports?? Thanks

Yes you need the split air tube unless you get true duals which come with their own setup.

True Duals.

If you don't have the cash then get the pre-silencer from RB. its not too much money.

is the line that connects to the cat here for the air pump, or actuators? because in this next pic is says air supply.

i dont know about the actuators, mine were stuck and are now wired open. that "air supply hose connection" is the air that the smog pump pumps into the cat to make it a catalyst. it kinda needs that.

The air supply hose in that pic goes to the air pump. But further up it has a small hose that connects to the 5th and 6th actuators. If this line is missing they won't work.

Well just look along the split air tube(air supply hose) and you will find this mushroom looking thing. If is near that where the little hose should be. It may just be missing or something. From there it hooks up to a small tube that is near the rear most actuator which is on the lower intake manifold.

Well, I have no pics, but here is what you do. Follow that line from the exhaust right on up to the engine bay.

There should be a check valve there. BEFORE the check valve, there should be a vac line running that line. That vac line gets connected to a small nipple under the LIM on the rear corner.

aha! I found a picture w/ the actuator deally mubob. I went to my car and this was capped off, idiots before me decided to delete the cats and not hook this up. How much horse do you think I will get from hooking this back up? Do you lose a lot from not having them work? and one more question, how does the backpressure from the exhaust only make it open at high rpm? Is there more backpressure under higher rpm or what, because I hear that if you dont hook it up to your exhaust and wire them open, you lose low end power. Thanks Much

Here's that pic:

Looks like they did the airpump setup with a garden hose T.

Without the aux. ports you probably lost around 30HP. YES if you wire them open you will loose what little Tq we have down low.

And BTW I STRONGLY suggest you go back to stock settings IF NOT a setting with more fuel once you make them work again. You CAN blow the engine which will cost you atleast 1k DOLLARS!!!! which can be avoided by making sure you have enough fuel with your AFC and for your engines sake save money for more DYNO TUNNING. Do you want to pay 1k to 2k dollars for your cheapness? IF you do I don't think you deserve your car.

From what I can tell(understand) from the post above me you capped off the split air tube and removed the smog pump. Yes you are loosing a fair amount of HP and some people say its around 30hp if both ports are not functioning.

I rigged up my port actuator by welding a small tube on the downpipe and using hydraulic line to the actuator (so the line doesnt melt from the exhaust temps). I found that my ports were pretty stuck, but they moved just a little (used lithium grease to see how far it would open). I could only manage to get the rear port to open all the way, but when I took the car back to the track, I cut more than a second off of my time, obviously a horsepower gain. Definately need to get the other one opening!

Wish I was that talented, how much work required? Do I have to remove the upper manifold and all that junk too?

You have to remove the upper and lower manifold. If you have everything needed it should take an afternoon. Difficulty level is probably a 6 of 10.

If you want I can help you through it over IM's or PM's and make a write-up for you all.
