downside to the "throttle body mod?"

My thermowax is giving me a high idle and I can't find a replacement anywhere, so I am considering the throttle body mod so many of you have talked about. I was wondering though, what are the side affects, if any? Is it hard to get it idling good in the cold? Thanks
