'not worth the time and money to me. cause if you really need to go that far. you're probably also at the stage of wanted a TO4 '

No offense but what's the matter with some of you guys? A couple people have said that same thing too me about the wastegate mods. ->>>> https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=155100

I am by no means an experienced/professional fabricator. And the cost of the wastegate mod project was:
- Racing Beat Down Pipe $125
- JC Whitney 2x 45 deg, 2.25" aluminized pipes- $7.69x2
-$35 to welder

That's a a total of 175 bucks plus shipping! If you can get the pipes locally then you're in for cheaper.

I haven't even seen T04 turbo manifolds going for that price! And have you seen the price of wastegates? TO convert to a T04 would cost a min of:
- ~$375 - Wastegate
- ~$775- Turbo
- ~$300 - <- maybe you'll get lucky
- ~$100- flanges and exhaust DP re-work
That's easily over a $1500.

You can't compare the cost! And if you are worried about the work part of it then you shouldn't be going T04. Installing a TO4 is work too.

Thanks for bringing the real cost facts!! I do apreciate your ideas, and best of all sharing it with all of us I'm not in this stage right now, but once I get there; I'll be doing this FOR SURE!!

Thanks again!

My 3" DP is on the way, now I just have to find a metal fab shop to do some welding for me.

wan,
I'd like to see some more pics of the DP and the plate. I'm gonna have to take these pics to the welder and show him what I want done, so the more the merrier.

Thanks,
Jim

Wan,

So you're the person who purchased the KSP downpipe from Gspeed. (Are you?)

The KSP downpipe is really nice. Unfortunately, that one only worked w/ S5 turbos.

Wan? You mean Dan? I made the DP myself if that's what you are asking. I am unclear.

No, I am referring to the User Name "Wan. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm trying to dig up a picture of the KSP downpipe at the moment. Am waiting for a response from a friend.

i bet this downpipe with the wastegate routed into it sounds so much better than an open wastegate. i had that loud *** SWAAAASSSS sound that open wastegates make.

Wouldn't an open vented WG be rediculously loud?

I'll find out soon. My buddy's got a T04 in an RX-2 that is almost ready to be started with an open wastegate. I think it is going to be ridiculously loud! It's got to be. Youre venting raw exhaust straight from the engine.

um... don't use aluminized pipes...
#1 aluminum will melt at rotary exhaust temps
#2 you should use the same type of metal the downpipe is made from. Ie mild steet for RB (although i hear their new ones are stainless) or 304SUS use 304SUS pipe

the different coefficients of thermal expansion will not play kindly to your downpipe if u used two different metals

I don't believe that there is a signficant difference in coefficients of thermal expansion between aluminized tubing and regular mild steel tubing. Mainly because aluminized tubing is only mild steel with a rust inhibiting coating over it. Stainless steel and mild steel do indeed have a different COTE.

My DP arrived and I found a machine shop just down the street that should be able to perform the welding for me. I am going to open vent the pipe first and see how loud it is

It can always be merged into the DP later if I don't like it, but we'll see................. and hear ;-).

dcee,
Any word on your buddies RX-2??

RX-2 is still not started because of compatibility problems between the Haltech and the laptop. I am waiting for another laptop which I bought off ebay. Once I get that one we will start here up and hear her roar ( hopefully )
