Door Structure ?'s

Hey all, If you were to take off the sheetmetal on the out side of the door and replaced it with carbon fibre, would that maek teh door really weak in a crash? Plus would doing this take some weight off the car (at least 10lbs or more)?

Thanks
-Justin

There are several places that do fiberglass panel replacements. Ones here are hand made and the ones oversees are made from a mold.

Generally the metal frame is your protection, but the panels do provide some crumple protection.

Unless you do the entire car in c/f or fiberglass, the weight savings from a panel or two won't be much as your going from aluminum to fiberglass or carbon fiber.

Your major weight savings will be in removing unecessary stuff like sound insulation, power steering, smog pump, moonroof, etc.. etc..

Also, if you have a steel hood that's found on a few rx-7s, swtich to an aluminum version.
