Door speakers don't work...
I have the factory cassette and LCD amp/equalizer in my '91. The front door speakers/woofers (which are aftermarket Panasonic ones, don't recall the model or specs other than that they have poly cones instead of paper) have quit working recently. I do think I matched the speakers to the ohm rating of the factory ones - I'm not much with electrical, but I know that much. The door speakers been in for a few years, although the car isn't a daily driver, so it's not like they have a lot of use.
Is this common? I did search and found that there is a separate amp behind the front driver's dash speaker - is it likely that amp crapped out? Or (I hope) it has a fuse or something easy to fix. If it is the amp, any suggestions for fixes, beyond finding one in a salvage yard? I'm reasonably happy with the factory setup for now, combined with a cassette adapter and my iPod, so I wasn't looking to replace the head unit and rewire everything - and it seems like the six-speaker arrangement will make adding an aftermarket stereo more complicated anyway.
I realize there is an audio/interior forum, but everything there seemed to deal with aftermarket rather than factory.

Haven't seen this exactly, but I can give you basic troubleshooting help.
1) with the car OFF, measure the impedence from the AMP connector to the speakers. Should be > 4 ohms.
2) If that's ok, measure the AC voltage coming from the amp going to the speakers (spkrs disconnected, stereo on medium volume). Should measure 10-30 volts.
I'm betting its the amp...
3) replace the whole thing with a new head unit with surround sound. You won't be disappointed. Is this a convertible? Search my posts for my convertible sub-woofer cabinet design...I don't have the link handy...
