Door Ajar Sensor

I think I have the exact opposite problem of everyone else who posts here about this thing. My door ajar sensor never tells me my doors are open, which is not a huge problem. But I think that sensor is tied into two other systems which are problems:

1. your key is in the ignition, moron
2. you left your headlights on, moron

I do both of these very frequently and would like to have the audible warning that the car provides when you do these things. I took the door ajar sensors off both doors today and found them rotted and broken... how hard are these things to replace?

Thanks for the help.

If it takes you 5 minutes to replace a door sensor then you need to sell your car and buy a Toyota.

It is just about as simple as one could imagine. It would be easier than even replaceing the oil or the battery.

Unscrew old switch/sensor, remove it from the hole, unplug it. Plug in the new sensor/switch screw, put it in the hole, screw down the retaining screw.

I had the exact same prolem, I rebuit them and it was fairly easy for me. If I remember well they're only a piece of metal with a spring; maybe you could custom make something?

Oh, and it made my security system come back to life!!!

What about the sensor that tells the seatbelts to retract on S5s? They're on a seperate switch, correct?

yes, although if your seat belt CPU does not see the door closed it will not retract the seats.

My passenger side belt stays closed. I rarely have passengers so I've never bothered to look into it. (Drivers side works fine), door ajar functions work fine on the passenger side too.

Is this sensor just as easy to change? (It's in the door, right?)

Yes it is seperate. The previous owner of my car just cut the wire running to the door switch so it was an easy fix for me.
