im not sure man i dont see anything like that on my car but i would guess its a water temp thermo

It's the thermo _switch_ for the stock auxillary fan.

It looks like the coolant neck!! hehehe, but seriously, yea, it looks like an early placement of the thermo sensor...

White_FC is correct, it's for the stock electric fan.
