i bought my 87 n/a from this school teacher in town and he said that he dropped a rebuilt different ebgine in?? How can i tell if the motor i got in my var now came out of a 86-88 or if it came out of a 89-91?????

 

The S4 had an EGR valve in the center housing, S5 did not. Other than that, the blocks are pretty much identical from the outside.

 

Does it have a rod going from the omp to the throttle body? if it does then it's an 86-88. I wish I could make this clearer, but try to go with that.

 

I was wondering what the heck that rod was for. Can it be modified at all? My oil presure is fine, just wondering.

 

also, the "13B Injection" engraving looks different on the 89-91 as it does from the 86-88.

here is my engine bay off my 91...if you're is indeed an 86-88, the throttle body mold will look a bit different...more suared off...
