Doing a good job plugging up the TII housing coolant passages?
I swear, I find out something I don't know about the FC every day, sometimes to my dismay I may add.
I just found out that the previous owner of this car had TII housings installed on my N/A engine.
So realizing this now, I do remember seeing 'open' coolant passages above the exhaust ports, they look like they connect up with the intake manifold. Now I"ve been told that the intake on a TII manifold is designed to have coolant run through it, for what reason I have no idea..
Anyways, on my LIM when I removed it this summer to clean it, I saw that there were two holes with o-rings installed! So when the LIM was connected to the block, the coolant passages on the housing lined up and the o-rings were sealing the deal.
Im confused becuase I was also told that these passages should not be on the LIM, so did the previous owner have them fabbed up or some ****?? argh, don't know whats going on!!!
Finally, if these passages don't need to go anywhere (obviously) then I might as well tap and plug em... however, this is the other question
WIll metal shavings from the tap job **** up the water pump or anything? I know the tap is designed to push the shavings out through the middle towards you, but im sure that a few will get into the coolant sleeves...

if you really feel the need to plug them just use expansion plugs (freeze plugs) to plug them, they do you no use on your application but they do run through the LIM to the turbo in a T2. for your application he probably just used a T2 gasket set as well which has 2 coolant passage holes and 2 o-rings to seal them, you can also use this style or a solid gasket with some sealant around the passages.
T2 rotor housings are sometimes commonly used in N/A because they don't have the diffuser in the exhaust port to slow down exhaust flow, it is considered an upgrade.

yea the gasket im using is the following
Now that I see that picture, im seriously gonna have to undu everything that i put back together and check this **** out, cause im sure that its gonna leak...
also after seeing that im pretty sure that I placed the 0-ring on the manifold, that pressing agains the gasket itself doesnt seal ****... its all screwed up, I'll have to check it out and see exactly what I did when I put it back together..
goddamnit.. all that work. Oh well, at least I've learned something here

heh.. now I know why it said "not used on 84-92 non-turbo 6-ports" on the mazdatrix website when I ordered the o-rings.
btw, how do the freeze plugs fit in if you don't need to tap?
