I'm not scared to get in my FC or any other car without an airbag.

What really scares me is cars WITH airbags. You know that's an explosive device, right?
Legally, shipping them requires a HazMat declaration and a burst proof box.

Mazda used to have us setoff defective airbags at the dealership, and when you set them off, everyone comes out of the building to see what that noise was.

part B, is that you put the airbag face UP in the parts cage to set it off, face down = the airbag flying 40+ feet in the air.

I'm a big fan of the days when sex was safe and cars were dangerous. Nowadays its the total opposite. When it comes to airbags the last thing I want is to add insult to injury by my car punching me in the face at the moment of impact.
When I lived in GA I watched this lil girl we all knew pull out in her celica and rearend the car in front of her that slammed on its brakes. Airbag deployed and broke her nose. Car wasnt even that bad, it was just enough to set her bag off. Its pretty brutal to watch someone take one in the face.

 

I’ve heard a few of these claims before. That having airbags is actually more dangerous than not having them, that seatbelts don’t do squat, that back in the day nobody worried about these things and they did just fine. None of the above is true. If the impact is high, an airbag could give you a bloody nose. But in the process, it also saves your life. Besides, look at auto insurance online and you’ll find that most providers offer discounts for installing them Seatbelts definitely save lives, it saved mine when I was in a head on collision a few years ago. And back in the day, there were quite a few deaths and accidents despite the fact that there were less people in the world and hence less cars on the road.

 

Life is better without airbags. They're scary as **** and at the same time can hurt you worse than you would've been without them. Like I said earlier, I didn't have as much as an ache after crashing my FC at 60+

 

Early airbags were really scary. Not only was the the charge completely un-modulated and likely to cause injury, but the propellant was an accumulative toxin. I won't have an airbag in anything pre-1998. I would much rather count on my seatbelt doing its job than have the dash grenade go of in my face. (Or while I'm working on the car)

 

berm shot off rock wall and endoed at 80, 86 FC, drove home, was some blood from the driver's window and a knot on the pumkin, belt worked, built in roll protection worked, not a good body panel left. if you want safe go 6 point harness, a hans device and a good helmet, when race cars start using air bags, i will be interested.

my 90 vert has an airbag and the thought of it going off scares the **** out of me... I think I drive more carefully knowing that this 20+ year old technology is probably going to ram my nose though my brain if it actually goes off.
