does my clutch switch look OK to you? (pics)

the other day I noticed a loud clicking sound whenver I depressed or released the clutch pedal. I was pretty sure it hadn't been there before, so I crawled down and had a look. this is what I saw:

#1 - clutch pedal all the way down (almost)
notice how there is a hole in the pedal arm?

#2 - clutch pedal almost all the way up
see how the switch is being depressed by the arm, and the switch is not quite in line with the hole in the arm?

#3 - clutch pedal all the way up
by the time I fully let off of the clutch pedal, the switch is forced into the hole, even though it's at an odd angle. that is what is making the clicking. because it's at an angle I don't think the switch is supposed to be going in that hole. is it?

so this that normal, or do I need to block that hole up with something? there's a lot of crud around it too, like maybe there used to be a rubber stopper or something that just deteriorated.

haha no its not. that happend to me only a couple weeks ago. there is a little stopper maybe 1/8" thick thats supposed to stop the little button. i just took some RTV and stuck a nickel to it to stop the clicking.

Haha...I used some duct tape. That's a good idea though, JB weld something on to it.

cool. yeah I used a few wraps of electrical tape = )

I am surprised the car doesn't get really confused... thinking that the clutch is "out" all the time?

no that's the weird thing, I still had to push the clutch in to start the car. I specifically tried that after seeing this. *scratching head*

thats because of the clutch switch.. its a safty thing. cuz if you can start up a car without the clutch in . It can lunge forward possibly hurting or killing someone.

The interlock switch is at the top of the clutch pedal.

In my 7s Ive had, Ive never had to press the clutch in to start it, though my dad's had to be pressed in. They were all 86s. Was this not standard on 86s? My first one and his were both base models. Ive also had 2 86 GXLs that didnt need to be pressed down to start.

Some had it, some did not. Even some 87's had it and some did not. I'm talking the Interlock switch at the very top of the pedal. You can see it in one of the pictures above. I'm NOT talking about the clutch switch shown and talked about in the pictures above.

Right...I know what your talking about. Im talking about the same. Just puzzled me that some had it and some didnt. Thanks.

PS-to the thread starter...next time..try to flip the pictures right side up, makes it easier to see what's going on. Not trying to nitpick.

There are actually two switch's the reason that the car won't start with that swith not pushed in is because there is also a switch so that it knows when the pedal is pushed all the way down i personally disabled this feature cause i was anoyed by not being able to jump in and start it up while i was repairing mine all the people that don't think they have one may have gotton the same thing the people before them probably disabled theres
