does my clutch switch look OK to you? (pics)
the other day I noticed a loud clicking sound whenver I depressed or released the clutch pedal. I was pretty sure it hadn't been there before, so I crawled down and had a look. this is what I saw:
#1 - clutch pedal all the way down (almost)
notice how there is a hole in the pedal arm?
#2 - clutch pedal almost all the way up
see how the switch is being depressed by the arm, and the switch is not quite in line with the hole in the arm?
#3 - clutch pedal all the way up
by the time I fully let off of the clutch pedal, the switch is forced into the hole, even though it's at an odd angle. that is what is making the clicking. because it's at an angle I don't think the switch is supposed to be going in that hole. is it?
so this that normal, or do I need to block that hole up with something? there's a lot of crud around it too, like maybe there used to be a rubber stopper or something that just deteriorated.

cool. yeah I used a few wraps of electrical tape = )
I am surprised the car doesn't get really confused... thinking that the clutch is "out" all the time?

no that's the weird thing, I still had to push the clutch in to start the car. I specifically tried that after seeing this. *scratching head*

In my 7s Ive had, Ive never had to press the clutch in to start it, though my dad's had to be pressed in. They were all 86s. Was this not standard on 86s? My first one and his were both base models. Ive also had 2 86 GXLs that didnt need to be pressed down to start.

PS-to the thread starter...next time..try to flip the pictures right side up, makes it easier to see what's going on. Not trying to nitpick.

There are actually two switch's the reason that the car won't start with that swith not pushed in is because there is also a switch so that it knows when the pedal is pushed all the way down i personally disabled this feature cause i was anoyed by not being able to jump in and start it up while i was repairing mine all the people that don't think they have one may have gotton the same thing the people before them probably disabled theres
