If not I'm going to talk to someone and see what they think about making them....company that makes lots of specialty parts.

Okay, he's saying if we get a small group (5 or so) together he can mold the pieces and sell for about $300 (maybe less) for carbon fiber (didn't quote FG). The more people the cheaper it gets.

as I said...the more people the better the price. That price was for carbon fiber...fiber glass would be cheaper.

I would suggest, finding out a price on, say 20 and then posting to see if there is any interest. $300 is just not realistic for most FC owners. I would rather have a bran new s5 surround than anything CF. That's just me though.

Point is your not gonna get much interest unless you throw a lower price up.

Realistic for whom? Definately not someone making them out of cf. There is too much work involved to sell for anywhere near $100. I wouldnt have done it for less then $275 a piece. And dont expect the fiberglass price to me much less. The price difference in materials isnt very big.

I have to agree with Mazdaspeed7 on this.

People here are just too cheap. They expect part makers and companies to sell at COST or make a TINY amount of profit.

When I get to thinking about it this really disgusts me but hey its economics. :-/

How much would you pay for them? Be realistic, if you try to lowball me, there isnt a snowballs chance in hell of it getting done.

I would pay $10 a piece...cuz that's how much I could make them out of aluminum for.

Mazdaspeed7...you're in the CF business? If enough people got involved how much would you sell the surrounds for?

Ive come to realize its not worth my time to make to make hardly anything for FC's, unless its something where Im making the mold for myself. Anything I do sell for FC's from now on will be made for me, and if anyone else wants one, Ill sell them after mines finished. But I can already tell you radio surrounds are a no-go. Ive tried before.

I could probably do $10 each for the sail panels.

Were the surrounds just difficult to make or what? They seem like a real pain in the *** to mold. I tried once to make a plaster mold and I could never get all the **** where it needed to be to work...

I not trying to srgue about what it costs to produce, I am describing a realistic price that most FC owners will pay. At 125 it is not economically viable to produce it. NO **** SHERLOCK!

But very few owners are going to shell out 300 + for a piece of interior trim.

^That never breaks. What's funny is that if it had come stock on a JDM model people here would pay twice that.

What problems did you run into when you tried the Stereo surround(if you tried it)??

I have some fiberglassing experience and ended up plastic welding mine back together but it's still ****.

Did you have probs w/ Clips/securing items or something else?

Exactly what I was saying. It is not econimically viable to produce many 2nd gen things. No wonder the aftermarket for our cars is pretty limited, especially here in the US.

The sail panels will be done in cf. If I can find a pair of good ones, Ill make the molds this weekend.

Digi7tech, most of the problems werent in the actual part itself. It was simply not economically viable. Noone wanted to pay what was necessary to have one, ESPECIALLY since I required deposits to start the mold. I have no need for one. I have a S5, and am perfectly happy with my radio surround.

There arent any clips holding it in, except the shifter surround. The ashtray poses a hell of a problem, and I was going to leave it out. Other than that, its pretty straight forward if you know general fiberglass skills.

I'm thinking of trying to make one again but with the shifter surround built in. I intend to reface it, though, so that I can put my stereo, guages, and what not wherever...but this is just idea. I'll prolly never get it done.

Thanks for the feedback on it.

I would have made 1 or 2 for my cars. I understand it's hard and not cost effective to mass produce these.

I'm not proficient enough to replicate Fiberglass stuff now anyways.

I think I have a good pair, but if not, Ill let you know.

Theres very few people like you. Most FC owners would not drop $300 on a cf radio surround.
