If I buy a core from spearco, or just pick up a nice npr intercooler somewhere, how hard is it to fabricate, locate, and get all the piping I'm going to need? I'm in absolutely no hurry, but seeing as even the greddy 2 row is 950 bucks, I'm sure I could have a full kit for half that amount.

Greddy will not sell you just the core! I picked up a apexi GT spec core brand new for $450. Have your local exhaust shop do the work! After hours, some guys will do a pipe job for $100 around here. I would recomend buying some J bends from summit so your I\C piping is all mandrel bent! Add another $50 bucks for powerd coat, and $35-50 for a stick of black pressure hose from NAPA 2.5" and 3"
