I have taken mine from chicago to flint, mi or flint to chicago (300 miles) plenty of times. I usually take my whole dorm room just in case.

The longest drive i've done in the 7 is from edmonton, ab to vancouver, bc, canada. It was a 16 hour drive, 4 done in one day and the remaining the next day. I could safely say I would go on another road trip and not be worried. I have a perfectly healthy 87 t2 with 129k km's on it. Haven't encountered any problems, except the other day my car flooded from an hour long spirited drive.

check all fluids, oil change
bring: plugs, manual, clutch fluid, tools, oil
drove from NY to FL in 25 hrs in it 90mph whole way with a lil break to nap
then was there for a few months and drove it back.
