Do they sell generic window switches?
I have a bad window switch in my daily car (95' 626) and a new one is too much. Are there any switches on the market that will allow reversing polarity. I have made a custom set-up before on my 89' 626 using four buttons where you had to push down either two red ones or two black ones to make the window go up and down. Well I'm guessing that maybe radio shack has a generic switch that is capable of hadling the polarity being reversed. If you are unfamiliar with the system it is preaty simple theory but very hard to make work mechanicaly.
Basicaly there is a hot line and a ground from the car; and two lines that run from the window motor both posing as hot lines and grounds at the same time. Well to make the window go up you connect the hot line from the car to one of the window wires and the ground from the car to the other wire from the window motor. To make it go down you simply reverse the hot and gound wire from the car. It sounds simple but when you try to figure out how to make it work without actualy moving the hot and ground wire it gets difficult. This is why window switches are hundreds of dollars and a light switch is a few bucks, I think. Anyways does anyone know of an aftermarket switch that is capable of hadling this job? I prefer aftermarket as opposed to another actual window switch due to cosmetic reasons. An aftermarket switch will usualy mount very nicely.

You could make your own window switchs for about $20 for a switch and two heavy duty automotive relays, but it might be cheaper just to go down to your local car stereo place and ask them if they have any Spal window switchs.
Most of the car stereo places I used to work at all had spare window switches, for about that.
The other alt would be using used switchs from a junk yard. American cars as well as the japanese are very simular in the wiring. Germans almost always use reverse grounds or relays and may not be the best choice.
If you want to know how to wire a basic momentary on/off/on switch to work relays for power windows let me know.

I'm starting to think that they do not sell switches capable of handling this job, for a reasonable amount of money.
I found a junk yard switch for the car for $75; but that still seems outrageous to me. I might just take one of the switches off of my old 89' 626 and wire it up. I guess I can hide it down inside the door handle. Thanks for the info Icemark, if you feel like explainig how to wire the momentary switch I swear I will listen.
I have a preaty damn good understanding of electricity in general. I installed car stereos for two years. I have already made one switch work using four momentary switches, doing it the hard way, I'm sure you can figure out how I did it. But I can't seem to figure out how it would work with just one switch. I'd rather not use any relays; I have the money for a new switch but I like to fix things on my own. But I don't want a mess of relays dangling inside my door. So if you know a way to use a single momentary switch; I'm all ears ...

I ended up having a friend of mine that works at a junk yard; kinda "GET" me one. I even got the window motor and track too. Those switches are probably the best alternative.
