Do I need new bushings or synchros?

Hey guys,

My transmission is hurting.

Things wrong:

1)When transmission is in gear i can wiggle the shifter from side to side almost like when its in neutral. It feels real sloppy.

2)The transmission wont allow me to downshift from third to second, and it is difficult to downshift from second to first.

3)When shifting gears the transmission wont go into gear easily, you half to put a little extra force behind it.

My clutch is pritty worn out and could be the cause of some of these problems, so i already ordered a new clutch from ACT; but i think the bushings or synchros need to be replaced.

What do you guys think the problem is?

Thanx for your responses,
Justin

Fix the bushings first, then see what you've got.

Drain & refill the tranny with synthetic gear lube, if you haven't already.

This is the shifter bushings being bad.

2)The transmission wont allow me to downshift from third to second, and it is difficult to downshift from

second to first.

Syncro trouble. Only can fix by taking apart trans.

Synthetic lube may help.

3)When shifting gears the transmission wont go into gear easily, you half to put a little extra force behind it.

Could be the syncros or the clutch is not releasing fully.

Woah, so there's supposed to be a bushing on the lower "ball" of the shifter?? Cool, didn't know that, have to go see if I can find it.

For those of you that don't know, I'm taking over the project of swapping a 13B w/ trans into a 60s MGB body, and my uncle(the guy I'm taking it over from) left a lot of stuff dissassembled and strewn about. I did the upper ball bushings today. Thought I was being creative when I found a second bushing in the garage(obviously he had bought one already and I hadn't been able to find it) and put it on top, guess that's how it's supposed to be Oh well, learning as I go, that's what's making this such a PITA, er, I mean fun

Ary

Edit: What's that spring on top of the lower ball?? I don't have that. Thanks
