Let me know if I have a S5 engine. When I bought the car, I was told it was.

Eh, too late to take more pictures..........

What makes you think it's a S4 engine ?

Actually, I was "told" it was a landers rebuild.

Whoever did build it, used orange silicone. I don't think these motors came stock with orange silicone, did they ?

You definately have S5 housing because of the knock sensor hole above the spark plugs. and I think S4 irons because of the knock sensor hole right below the oil filler.

That's why I showed that picture. I did alot of reading about this and those two things threw me off.

So, is that rear iron definitely a S4 ?

Looks like an N/A center-iron too... Unless he popped out the stock TII oil-filler neck and hammered in the "vertical" N/A oil-filler for looks or something... N/A center-irons have smaller intake ports than the TII's--but if it's street-ported (or whatever) than they likely got enlarged.

Those hole around the filter are for the coolant temp, and oil pres. senders. On the S4 the knock sensor is by the dipstick. Seems like a S5.

They ports haven't been touched on it. Well, atleast the outer ports.

You can see here that the oil filler neck was cut and welded (Modified). Not sure if this means anything.

s5 housings (threaded holes above spark plugs are for the knock sensor)
s4 irons (the coolant temp sensor on the rear iron is for an s4, and they ar not interchangable)

Welp, looks like I need to locate some S5 plates. Good thing this motor is being pulled for a little streetport.

Isn't the s4 rear iron better for high power applications though?

the s5 has thicker casting, not the s4

the s4 rotors are the ones that are for higher hp applications because they are lower compression and can take more boost.

Probably an s4 TII center-iron. I haven't compared the "side profile" on the intake side of an s4 N/A vs. s4 TII, to know if it were N/A or TII by looking at the external size of the center-iron ports, but you *could* pop out the fuel-injector diffusers shown protruding down into the intake path... The N/A diffusers have a flat bottom "grate" and flat center-grate. The TII diffusers have an angled center-grate IIRC. Probably not a big deal either way, whatever you discover.

if you look closely, the weird intake is because thats a 4 bore THROTTLE BODY. Its still gonna be injected, and the fuel rails are sticking off the side of the throttle body. That style throttle body is some times used on hot rods that wand to look carbed still. Too bad its so EXPENSIVE, it kicks ***, and looks cool too. Kinda like ITB's, but looks like a carb.
